Discover the Joy in . . .STRENGTHENING
ALABAMA SCHOOLS
"In
the Baptist church, we are AGAINST so much, maybe it's time for us to be FOR
something."
Across Alabama, there
is a growing belief that individuals, WMU groups, churches and associations need to be
more active in supporting Alabama schools. With cutbacks in school funding, an
uncertain tax revenue future, and the constant threat of continued proration, local
support from churches and Alabama Baptists is vital.

What have
Alabamians been doing to strengthen the schools in their area?
We pray for our school.
The local schools in three counties are listed by name in our bulletin weekly.
We collect school supplies for two local schools. Teachers in our church
distribute the supplies to these schools.
Piney Grove Baptist Church, Ardmore
Our WMU group picked a family from our local elementary school and
sponsored them at Christmas. We provided bikes and new coats.
Sardis Springs Baptist Church, Athens
Our church WMU provides snacks for children who do not
have snacks every day. We also provide school supplies and backpacks to elementary
students in need. Last year we held a shoe drive and gave shoes and socks to needy
children. This year we are having a give-away yard sale to provide back to school
clothes.
Hines Baptist Church, Bear Creek
Our church finds out if the local school has
uniforms and what it is. We provide all different sizes and under clothes for the
first aid rooms.
Spring Hill Baptist Church, Mobile
Our church donated school supplies and coats for ten
needy students. We assisted project help in getting clothes prepared and school
supplies. Franklin Association set August 5 as a day of prayer for the school
nearest to your church.
