| Who We Are:
What We Do: The Purpose of BNF is:
- To provide Christian
professional fellowship.
- To promote professional continuing education.
- To
encourage missions involvement for nurses who want to use their specialized
skills in missions.
|
How We Accomplish Our
Goals:
- An annual retreat provides fellowship and
continuing education credit.
- Members are invited to
participate in mission trips that use medical care as a means to evangelize
and are usually related to Alabama missionaries.
- There are many opportunities for nurses to
be a part of health fairs in churches and associations.

-
A Parish Nurse may use her/his nursing skills and
compassionate nature to help people in a church congregation or community
understand the directions of a doctor.
-
A Parish Nurse might lead a health
fair to check people's blood pressure, explain proper nutrition, lead a
class on babysitting or a variety of other skills.
-
A Parish Nurse may be
called a Minister to Health or a Congregational Nurse and is noted as a
specialty by the American Nursing Association.

How can I be involved in Parish
Nursing?
-
You can receive training as a Parish Nurse by attending the next class
sponsored by Alabama WMU, Baptist Health Systems of Birmingham and Ida
Moffett School of Nursing, Samford University. These three partners work
together to provide one class in the Spring of each year. (Each class is
limited to 25 students and consists of two weekends.) Parish Nurses are
included as a part of Alabama Baptist Nursing Fellowship.
The next Parish Nurse
course is:
Part 1: February 15-17, 2008
Part 2: March 14-16, 2008
